Sofanauts ("we", "us", or "our") built Truly Bad Things as a commercial iOS application. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app accesses, how it is used, and your choices regarding your data.
1. Information We Collect
Truly Bad Things is designed with privacy in mind. We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal data on any external server. All data the app uses stays on your device or within your personal iCloud account.
Location Data
The app requests access to your device's location only while the app is in use. Your location is used solely to identify nearby historical sites and display relevant content. Your location data is never transmitted to our servers, shared with third parties, or stored beyond the current session.
Camera & Photos
The app may request access to your device's camera and photo library. These permissions are used to:
- Take photos at historical locations you visit
- Save photos to your device's camera roll
Photos are stored locally on your device. We do not access, upload, or share your photos.
Local Storage
The app stores data locally on your device using standard iOS storage (UserDefaults). This includes your journey progress, site visit records, notes, and preferences. This data never leaves your device unless you use iCloud sync (see below).
iCloud Sync
If you are signed in to iCloud on your device, the app may use iCloud Key-Value Storage to sync your notes across your Apple devices. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your iCloud data.
2. In-App Purchases
Truly Bad Things offers content packs for purchase through Apple's StoreKit framework. All transactions are processed entirely by Apple. We do not receive, process, or store any payment information such as credit card numbers or billing details. Purchase records are managed by your Apple ID account.
3. Third-Party Services
Truly Bad Things does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or crash-reporting services. We do not integrate any third-party SDKs that collect user data. The app communicates only with Apple's own services (StoreKit for purchases and iCloud for note syncing).
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise share your personal information with any third parties. Because all data remains on your device or in your personal iCloud account, there is no user data for us to share.
5. Data Retention
All app data is stored locally on your device. You can delete this data at any time by deleting the app from your device. If you use iCloud sync, you can manage your iCloud data through your device's Settings.
6. Children's Privacy
Truly Bad Things is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. The app contains historical content about dark and violent events which may not be suitable for younger audiences.
7. Security
Because all data remains on your device and within your personal iCloud account, your information is protected by the security measures built into iOS and iCloud, including device encryption and Apple's security infrastructure.
8. Your Rights
Since we do not collect or store your personal data on any external servers, there is no personal data for us to provide, modify, or delete on our end. You have full control over your data through your device:
- Revoke location, camera, or photo permissions at any time in Settings > Privacy
- Delete all app data by removing the app from your device
- Manage iCloud data through Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
